  • Jean-Claude Perrier - India Stage

    Born in 1957 in Paris, Jean-Claude Perrier is a journalist (Livres-Hebdo, Long Cours, L’Orient Littéraire etc.) and writer of nearly 50 published books: novels, essays, biographies, travel stories, publications etc.
    He was awarded the Louis-Barthou prize by the Académie française in 2010 for Les mystères de Saint-Exupéry (Stock, 2009) and was a finalist for the Renaudot Essai prize with his book Comme des Barbares en Inde (Fayard, 2014).
    Having travelled extensively since the early 1980s, particularly around India, he has devoted a number of works to this country-continent, including André Malraux et la tentation de l’Inde (Gallimard, 2004, translated into Hindi: IGNCA, 2019); two anthologies: Le goût des villes de l’Inde (Mercure de France, 2005) and Le goût de l’Inde (Mercure de France, 2007); a travel story: Dans les Comptoirs de l’Inde (Le cherche-midi, 2004, latest edition: Imperiali Tartaro, 2013), published in India, translated into English, Travels in French India, by Sampark, Kolkata, 2018, and an André Gide pastiche novel, Indian Paludes (Belfond, 2017).
    He has carried out several missions in India for the French Embassy, Culturesfrance and the CNL and is currently literary advisor to India, the Guest of Honour country at Livre Paris 2020.
