    Sharjah Publishing City (SPC)

Sharjah Publishing City (SPC), a subsidiary of Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), is the very first publishing free zone in the world. It seeks to achieve SBA’s objective of creating an investment environment that incubates publishers from around the world. SPC is equipped to provide publishers with comprehensive support and world-class publishing services including printing, licensing and distribution.

SPC extends over 40,000 sqmt, offering 300 furnished offices for business owners and publishers, as well as a 6,000-sqmt area for investors who wish to create their own work spaces. The publishing city features more than 20 meeting rooms, storage and service facilities, a public administration branch of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah, a data centre, and a spectrum of other services that supports publishers.

Upon completion of SPC’s first phase of development, it is able to host 550 institutions and companies. In an additional service, it offers to publishers a database of content contained within 16 million books in a variety of languages that were recently published, in a format that publishers can easily reprint, update and modify. They have already received applications from over 150 known publishers in the region and beyond, most notably; Ingram Group and Repro India Limited from India. The city will also form well studied plans to create a printing capacity of one million books a day.

SPC provides an invaluable opportunity to publishers to form partnerships with book markets worldwide. It capitalises on Sharjah’s strategic location, its accessibility to the world via the Sharjah International Airport, and the array of its vibrant ports, as well as the world-class services, such as expedited licensing with the issuance of licenses in less than 24 hours, and facilitating the process of obtaining sponsorships and visas to employees of all nationalities.
