    Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF)

Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) was launched in 2006 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Ruler of Sharjah, whose vision is to nurture a generation of leaders who have a natural predisposition for knowledge and appreciation for the written word. The festival is being held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA).

SCRF’s array of activities contributes to fostering love of reading and promotes Arabic literature at a global level. It provides hundreds of fun and creative activities for children and young adults, some of which include theatre shows, story-telling sessions, competitions, puppet shows and other activities that cater to all age groups.

The festival attracts an increasing number of participants and visitors each year. The ninth edition of SCRF 2017 saw 306,000 visitors, 123 exhibitors and 179 guests from around the world. It organised 2,093 artistic, cultural, recreational and educational activities, and 1,403 children’s activities, which were curated by professional artists, children’s literature experts and event organisers from 23 countries around the world.

Several important literary awards are given out using the prestigious SCRF platform. These include the Sharjah Children’s Book Award (SCBA), the Sharjah Children’s Book Award for Visually Impaired Children (VICA), as well as the Sharjah Children’s Books Illustrations Exhibition (SCBIE) awards, which are held on the side-lines of SCRF every year.
